Ruoholahti

Architect office AJAK: Jarkko Kettunen and Adalbert Aapola: Light pillars
Under the bridge of Ruoholahti , the crossing of Mechelininkatu and Porkkalankatu
Lighting of the pillars under bridge of Ruoholahti.

Painted pillars consist all the colours of spectrum and change the colour depending on which angle you look at them. The artwork has a powerful collective quality that appears especially in the impact of the colours. Total impact of the work creates a feeling of weightlessness.

Suvi Parrilla: Sunset –video (2003)
In a lobby of Helsinki Conservatory, Ruoholahdentori 6, 29.11.-2.12.
Video, 15 min/loop

In the video a simple light of the sunset that reflects from the clouds is a unique documentation of the phenomenon of light in nature. The work explores videos possibility to capture a unique moment that is normally seen only as a part of natures daily routines.

Arno Piroud (FRA): Blue planet
Ruoholahdentori
Light installation, recycled material.

This luminous object is shaped as earth. Nowadays when ecology gets energetically brought up, I use recycling and distortion of use of materials to end in a light, diamond-shaped and poetic work. At the opposite of the materials used. Unfortunately Arno Pirouds artwork has been broken because of the heavy wind.

Kamppi

Raoul Kurvitz (EST): The Smile of My Girlfriend, the Wind
Narinkkatori, 17.-29.11.
Light installation

The wind is invisible. Not always is she around, but sooner or later she would let you know about her presence. She is moody and unpredictable; when she comes, she might bring along pleasure, but also trouble. But one is sure: she will not abandon you ever. Sometimes she smiles. (The object belongs to a series of wind-sculptures by R.K.; the first one was presented in Lyon/Tallinn, 2005/06; the third one is waiting for its turn).

Thanks to Helsinki Energia.

Lighting of the subway platform

HKL changes their old lamps into energy saving new fluorescent lamps in the Hakaniemi, Rautatieasema and Kamppi subway stations. Ada Halonen tests how much power it is possible to get out the new lamps. How much feeling you can create with the new lamps, or can you. Please notice that all the new lamps might not be installed to all the stations by 17.11.2007.

Antti Pussinen: Dance to the sound of the underground
Fence of metro between the stations Herttoniemi and Siilitie
60 paintings, UV lighting, installation on the fence

Using a private car in the cities is mad!

By walking, biking, and travelling with public transport one becomes a part of living city and can observe the dynamics that keep city alive and interesting.

In this work the artist creates an animation in the spirit of old flip book animation. Several pictures will be attached to the sheltering fence beside metro tracks so that a passenger can see the animation through the window while the train passes by the pictures.

Production team: Jii Hutikka, Inka Jurvanen, Emilia Liljeström, Sera Martikainen, Marianne Mäkelin, Mikko Mällinen, Ilona Romunen, Tessa Siira, Andrew Paterson: Jii Hutikka’s Clip Karavaani

Jii Hutikka's Clip Karavaani is an almost-zero-cost ‘micro-cinema’ in hybrid public space: We will be lighting up a ‘Roll-down-Fold-out’ screen for movie-clips somewhere at a Helsinki Metro station near you!

Like any good mobile entertainment, our ‘Clip Karavaani’ will borrow a little bit of city space. We invite you to our nomadic series during Valon Voimat 2007 Festival of ‘One Night-Only Stands’. We take advantage of a playful range of marginal, popular and subcultural movie-clips, via popular online media platforms or ‘P2P’ resources. NB/ We encourge clip-movie suggestions in dialogue with local audience tastes and interest. Watch out for the ‘Video Slams’: Bring along a little online enlightenment! We are on the move.

Catch us in advance for more details: http://clipkaravaani.info

The 'Clip Karavaani' project emerges from the 'Self-organising and Networking MAA' course at Taidekoulu MAA.
