5. Forces of Light- City Festival is divided into five subthemes:
| LIGHT AND MOVEMENT focuses on experimental club events, combining visual and audial elements and searching new kind of spaces and sites. Dance in its various manifestations is very much on the fore. |
| TIME OF LIGHT draws on local communities, schools, day nurseries and institutions. The inhabitants, old and young are encouraged to give their creative input and energy to illuminate their living surroundings. Forces of LightÕs nature as a social event is very much emphasised in this period. |
| ART OF LIGHT brings dozens of luminary installations into the streets of Helsinki. Artworks that examine the relationship between the artist, the public milieu and the community. The range of works is as new and surprising every year, varying from massive architectural and landscape lightings to the tiniest and most fragile pieces. |
| CIRCUS OF LIGHT is a yearly growing event that allows for new experimental circus acts from home and abroad. |
| VALO - URBAN DESIGN presents new design consepts for the dark season.VALOhoito (LIGHT care) in the nyttely-space in Lasipalatsi (the Chrystal Palace) shows a series of VALO-objects; furniture, clothing, space and sound. |
