Mattel Shop Review

About Mattel

Mattel was first launched by husband-and-wife team Ruth and Elliot Handler and their partner Harold “Matt” Matson in 1945. They manufactured picture frames out of a small workshop in Southern California. They figured out they could make dollhouse furniture out of the picture frame scraps, and soon, the company’s focus turned to toys.

Mattel toys have become some of the most popular in the world, and they include such iconic products as Barbie, See ‘n Say, Hot Wheels and View-Master. In 1993, Mattel acquired Fisher-Price Toys, and their selection of toys increased greatly. Today, Mattel employs over 31,000 people in 43 countries, and Mattel toys are sold in 150 countries around the world.

Products

Customers can select from a broad range of toys displayed on the site. Toys are organized by age, gender, play pattern and category. The shop offers a sale and clearance section. The website had some games for children to play and offers social connections for collectors of toys.

One hallmark of Mattel’s success is that their classic toys are just as popular now as they have ever been. No little girl would pass up a new Barbie, and a collection of Hot Wheels cars can be a child’s most valued possession. However, the classics are now supplemented by several lines of popular new toys, many of which are tied in to Disney/Pixar cartoons the children love, such as Toy Story, Cars and the Disney Princesses.

Shipping and Payment

Mattel Shop has an easy return policy that is not limited to a certain number of days. Payment is by major credit card or PayPal, and the site charges sales tax. The ordering page is a little longer than some website because Mattel has built in some safeguards to prevent kids from ordering toys without their parent’s permission.
